Australian Dictionary Chooses ‘Enshittification’ As The Word Of The Year
Several different dictionary producers chose a word or phrase of the year. My favorite of them all is the one chosen by Australia’s oldest dictionary, Macquarie Dictionary. It’s a term that was made famous by tech critic Cory Doctorow in 2023.
Here’s the definition:
noun Colloquial: the gradual deterioration of a service or product brought about by a reduction in the quality of service provided, especially of an online platform, and as a consequence of profit-seeking.
People Are Sharing The One Book That Has Stood Out To Them In All Their Years Of Reading
Hannah Loewentheil of the BuzzFeed staff “browsed through the subreddit r/books and parsed through responses from the BuzzFeed Community” to find “the very best books to put on your bucket list, according to avid readers like you.”
The result is a list of 31 books ranging from classics to more recent works. You’ll recognize a lot of the titles.
